THE CHARACTER - EMERY VALKE

Emery Valke Application Daemon10 Emery Valke Application Daemon10 Emery Valke Application Daemon10 Emery Valke Application Daemon10

A boat, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July--

Name: Emery Valke

Age: 17

Birthday: 27 March

Gender: Male

Mage Element: Dark

Teacher or Student? Student

Personality: Emery is not an easy to approach, not only is he a moody teenager, but he’s also a dark elementary, who are notorious for being quick tempered and violent. He has a face that falls naturally in to a frown and misty eyes which are very inexpressive. However, this isn’t what he’s really like – as soon as you get to know him he’s a very bright and cheerful teen who is loyal to his friends. When he’s in a good mood he likes to hug them without warning, grinning widely. To him darkness is not an evil element but about calmness and quiet and this sums him up much better. He doesn’t talk to people very often and often prefers to be in an animal form over his human one.

He‘s very prim and proper; he comes from an upper class family and so tends to be a little stuck up and frigid, and honestly a little spoiled. He was given all he wanted, mostly because his parents were a little afraid of having a dark mage for a son. They used it to keep him placated and also make sure he was kept away from them. He gets a little confused when people say they don’t have the money for something, having very little concept of value. This means that oddly he sometimes prefers the things with little monetary value and protects them more passionately than would things that are more expensive.

He’s very secretive, not liking to give his secrets even to his best friends. Nobody – not even his parents - know if his hair is naturally blue or if it’s dyed. He enjoys music and plays piano, violin and the guitar all very well and likes learning new instruments. This was because the only time his parents ever paid attention to him was when he was playing, absolutely mesmerizingly, from the way his long fingers fly over the instrument or the way his face relaxes and his eyes close in concentration.

Long has paled that sunny sky;
Echoes fade and memories die;
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Appearance:

Style: He tends to wear dark jeans and loose shirts in various colours, either dark or pastel colours. He sometimes has chunky headphones around his next and has his phone always with him. On his left wrist he wears a spiked bracelet on his right wrist which he sometimes plays with when he’s bored. He has piercings (the holes come and go as he transforms them in when he choses) but he doesn’t wear them much, usually only when he’s going to clubs, which he only does when his friends drag him. Not that he’ll be able to go now.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

History: Imagine, if you will, a house. A house untouched by time in the middle of the country side, isolated from the rest of the world. What country? It doesn’t really matter, this place is a world of its own. The wind blows and the trees around rustle softly in the breeze. Just as the delivery boy from the market comes to the service entrance with the day's groceries, a scream can be heard. Nobody comes to meet the boy so - a little freaked out, who knew what went on in that old house - he got back on his bike to start on the long drive back to the village.

However the scream was not one of terror, it was one of life. We go in the door of the house, up the grand gilded staircase that is faded and creaks, and the carpet that's threadbare from so many people walking over it. The screaming gets louder so we speed up a little, past the oil paintings on the walls and down the candle lit corridor that flickers in the dark. As we open the door we see a woman lying on the bed, her husband, we assume, holding her hand as someone says calmly 'Just one more push and you'll be done. Are you ready, now one big push' we hear a fast paced 'pantpantpant' then suddenly more screams assault your ears.

Then there's a small cry and cheers run around the room. A baby is born to joyous celebration by his family. We may as well clap as well for you see, this tiny baby is our soon to be hero, Emery Valke. His parents hand him around the room so his aunt and uncle, his cousins, his grandparents. There's crying all around, and not just from the confused new born and - shall we hold him too? He's very cute and awfully wriggly for a new-born. His grandfather says he'll be a footballer if he keeps that up.

Perhaps we should leave now, this is a very private moment and we - you and I - don't know the family at all. So we sneak back out now, down the servant's stairs. Now the baby has been born, the kitchen is bustling. Apple?

I'll take us now, if you'll let me, a few years forward in time. It's autumn and the leaves are falling off the trees. The acres of forest behind the house are all shedding, red and orange swirling in to the sky in the up draught.

'It looks like magic. Our hero claims when he looks out his window in the morning, over the vast expanses of forest. His draughty little room is at the very top of the old house, in a little spire. His fairy-tale tower, he calls it, obsessed with the stories at this tender age of five. You see he doesn't see people from the outside world very much so he lives with his imagination mostly, playing little games.

Look, he's doing it today as well. His nursemaid wraps a scarf around his neck and he wriggles away from her, running out in to the garden, around the trees. It's a little cold, we notice, and the wind whips through his bright blue hair. We see, as does little Emery, a small stray puppy on the floor. Curiosity brings him closer and a moment later he's down on the floor on all fours, wriggling about and playing with the puppy. Then there's a rush of power, tugging on our hearts and there are two puppies in the forest, one with blue fur on his left ear and down his muzzle.

Curious, wouldn't you say?

It's then that Emery finds out he's a mage. A dark mage.

His family, as you can imagine, are a little scared. There's a stigma attached to dark magic, as you can imagine. It's infamous for being dangerous and violent and they're afraid he'll hurt them, whether on purpose or by accident. As he grows we see that he's most adept at transformation magic - it's nearly as natural as breathing for him. He struggles with the more traditional disciplines; lightning and shadow manipulation, causing more than a few fires.

We next meet him at the age of 15, a shy teenager introduced in to a bigger world than he's used to. When he was little he believed the world only went as far as the little brook at the end of the garden. As far as he knew, the boy who delivered the groceries simply fell off the edge of the world. None of it mattered to him, he preferred to sit in his room with his fairy-tale books open around him and transform in to the creatures in the watercolour or ink illustrations, looking at himself in the mirror.

But that was then, now is now, and he's on the train for the first time. All the people scare them and they don't talk to him, even though he's lost. Perhaps we should tell him where to go, but it's a good learning experience for him, so we'll watch, as we have his whole life. We are here merely to observe the specimen.

Today he's travelling to his new school. We must note that last month he caught a cold and very nearly burned down the house by summoning an errant fork of lightening. At the end of their tethers, his parents decided to send him away to a school so he could learn how to control his magic and most of all, get him away from them.

So he sits on the train, lost and confused while we look on, amused. He's off to a new life, with new people.

Because he's scared.

But that's just part of life, so as we watch him struggle as we have his whole life. We're here to watch - if all life's a stage, we're the audience. So we say good luck, Emery, our protagonist, in Koterne.

Let's hope nothing happens like.... oh, I don't know, the great tree of Yggdrasil dying.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die;

Roleplay Sample Emery felt completely lost. There was a large building on the side of the roads casting impending shadows over the street, like a massive concrete temple to worship the gods of retail. He was being battered about by all the people, who didn’t seem to care that he had shoulders and just bumped in to them, pushing him this way and that until he had drifted several yards. Didn’t any of them see him? It was as if he was invisible.

“H-Hello?” He asked someone but she just walked straight past him. “Hello?” He turned about, why couldn’t people be nicer? He clutched the map in his fist, “I’m looking for-” Gone. “Can you help me, please?” He asked, exasperated.

He was starting to get claustrophobic and he couldn’t breathe, so he elbowed his way through the crowd in to a little alley that smelt awful rotting fish. He nearly gagged but it was better than the pressing, pulsating crowd that was squeezing the life and soul out of him. No wonder all the people here were mindless sheep; all the soul had been squeezed out of them by those horrid crowds. He shuddered and hugged himself; he had seen more people in the last day than he had in the first few years of his life and he was overwhelmed.

He made sure nobody could see and shifted his form in to that of a pigeon (just because one had magic didn’t mean they should flaunt it) and flew in to the sky, looking for a train station.

Ever drifting down the stream--
Lingering in the golden gleam--
Life, what is it but a dream?
